High resoultion typing of bacterial zoonoses for tracing the sources of outbreaks and human cases of infection

The project will improve the tracing of zoonotic disease agents like EHEC, Salmonella, Listeria and Yersinia by using high resolution typing methods based on next generation sequencing.  Methods will be evaluated and refined during two years by providing support to the investigation of human disease cases with suspected links to livestock as well as outbreaks. A standard platform for multiple zoonotic bacterial species will improve our preparedness for emerging disease agents or outbreaks caused by “new“ serotypes of EHEC or Salmonella.
